ESTABLISHED in 1948, Murray Harvy Jewellers has been a well-known and trusted family-owned business that Murray Bridge locals have embraced. Their solid reputation has been built with a strong personalised customer service focus and high quality guaranteed products for the past 60 years.
Murray Harvy was a qualified watchmaker himself, and learnt his trade as an apprentice in Adelaide from the age of 14. He later moved and worked for Wendts Jewellers where he learnt to engrave, set diamonds and make rings. After marrying wife Anita in 1943, they bought their own shop in Sixth Street, Murray Bridge, in 1948.
The business operated there until 1968 when it moved to its current location at 25 Bridge Street. Despite the passing of Murray Harvy, the business continued to operate with the help of the family, with his son Russell taking over in 1982. In 1995 Russell sold the business to Ian and Chris Zadow, with Ian’s mother Dot and sister Paula having had long associations working with the Harvy family. Ian Zadow decided to keep the Murray Harvy name as it was synonymous with quality jewellery and service in Murray Bridge. He believed that too much of Murray Bridge’s history had been lost in recent times, and felt it was important the name be kept for its reputation and tradition.
Ian’s wife Chris and two daughters ran the store after the ownership change, until eldest daughter Lorie returned from Sydney in 1999 and accepted the position as manager. The past three years has seen the store take on an exciting new look, completely refurbished inside and out, while retaining the friendly and reliable service to their many loyal customers. Lorie said the difference between their store and the city stores was the shopping experience, being able to choose unique pieces and create ‘one off’ designs that chain stores were not interested in offering. The boutique shopping experience offered by Murray Harvy Jewellers sets the store apart. The store offers more than just shelf selection. They are members of the Nationwide Buying Group, which is the largest in Australia and New Zealand. This allows them to access a wide range of products at the right price to offer their customers.
Murray Harvy Jewellers now has a-12 months interest free payment plan to suit your needs and your budget. Lorie also regularly visits Antwerp where more than 75 per cent of the world’s diamonds are cut and traded.Lorie has extensive jewellery experience including undertaking the GAA Practical Diamond Grading course in 2002. Her team possesses an extensive knowledge in all aspects of jewellery with both Cynthia Dutschke and Sophie Daly completing diamond and jewellery design courses in Sydney. Lorie and her team possess extensive knowledge on all aspects of cut, colour and clarity of precious gems and quality metals. Being part of the recently restored BeeHive corner building, fits perfectly with Murray Harvy Jewellers’ intention to continue to be apart of the history and the future of Murray Bridge. Sixty years of continual operation is an achievement in itself, but the team still feel they have many years ahead of them
